What will I get out of a session?
You will learn the building blocks of a memory writing method that cures writer’s block – forever. After just one session, you will never stare at a blank page again, and you will learn how to excavate an infinite treasure trove of memories hidden in the deepest overlooked corners of your brain.
Ok, cool, but what exactly is memory writing?
The technique combines elements of neuroscience, creative cognition, and meditative writing which Heather has adapted from collaborating with scientists and artists all over the world. You will learn how to write from a different part of your brain, accessing images and forming sentences you would not have otherwise written. You have another voice waiting to speak, other than the one you’ve been trained to use. In these sessions you will meet that voice.
How can I use it?
The method is great for writing novels, speeches, admissions essays, screenplays, toasts, song lyrics, eulogies, job application cover letters, journal entries, flirtatious emails, comic books, scandalous tell-all autobiographies, marketing materials, blog screeds, etc. It can be used for writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry or hybrid genres.
How is it structured?
1:1 sessions or group workshops can take anywhere from 1-3 hours, and build from basic to advanced techniques, depending on your goals. For customized 1:1 sessions a combination of memory writing training plus editing, public speaking coaching, and college/fellowships admissions strategy advising is possible.
Pricing is variable based on your needs, group size, and location.
By day, Heather Lord is a global philanthropy and social impact strategist, public speaker, facilitator, and serves on various foundation and corporate boards. To get her creative fix, she moonlights as a memory writing teacher, speechwriter, college and fellowships admissions essay whisperer, and a facilitator at the Bondi Literary Salon at Gertrude & Alice bookstore.
Heather has been leading memory writing workshops for over two decades to novelists in search of fresh inspiration, CEO's working on high-stakes keynotes, rock stars penning their latest ballad, nonprofit leaders crafting grants, students stressing over application essays, corporate teams on the hunt for innovation, and elders with early stage dementia wanting to boost their brain health.
Heather’s method is part science and part creative seance, inspired by novelist and comic-book queen Lynda Barry, informed by cognitive neuroscientists she collaborated with while getting her masters degree at Princeton University, and shaped by meditation teachers from around the world.
